DART Orange Line (Sections 1-3)

Omega Contracting, Inc. completed a major portion of the concrete work for Section I-3, the segment of the DART Orange Line that extends from the Belt Line station in Irving to DFW Airport. 9-mile, five-station rail line was one of the most aggressive rail expansion programs in the nation, and features eight bridges, 58,000 TF of ballasted track, 24,700 TF of direct fix track, and 14,600 TF of embedded track. Nearly $11 million of the overall $480 million contract was self-performed, including catenary bases, TPSS locations, and the pouring of five individual bridge decks. The complex 800” Cistercian Bridge portion was completed two months ahead of schedule. Omega developed nighttime scheduling rotations to improve production and minimize traffic impacts, as well as weather related fatigue from the scorching record-breaking summer temperatures.

Scope included a total of 220 OCS foundations and also four bridge decks at Beltline, Hackberry, Plaza, and Crossunder #1 (at DFW Airport). Omega provided wet utilities, including 2 inch to 30 inch lines, split casings where necessary, at depths up to 20 feet. Storm drainage involved box culverts ranging from 6’x3’ to 3’x 2’, 18 to 14 inch pipe, and rock or concrete riprap on drainage ditches for erosion control.
